What are common side-effects of Poppy Tea?

As with any substance used medicinally or recreationally, poppy tea may trigger or exacerbate a number of unwanted effects in a user. These possible side-effects range in severity from mild to deadly serious. Relatively small dosages may induce dizziness, nausea and sedation. Many people experience itching. Constipation and urinary retention is not uncommon. Overdoses may result in respiratory depression and cardiac arrest. Alcohol should be avoided because it can greatly enhance the chances of experiencing these more serious adverse events.

All ethnobotanicals, including poppy tea, should be treated with great respect.

Lighting and Photoperiod for Indoor Growing

For Papaver Somniferum varieties, it is best to use HID lamps (HPS or MH). A 1000W can shed ample light to grow a 12ft by 12ft area. HIDs get hot so you may need to cool the room or find a plant that grows in a warm climate.

Photoperiod for germination and the vegitative "cabbage stage" should be 12/12 (12 hours on; 12 hours off).
To force flowering use an 18/6 or 24/0 photoperiod.

    Is cross-posting allowed?

No. Messages should be posted ONLY in the appropriate forum. If you do not have permission to post a topic in a particular forum, do not post the same thing in a different forum just because you don't have permission.

Also, do not post the same topic in more than one forum. Similarly, do not just post all of your messages in the "General Discussions" area because you think it will get "more exposure". Cross-posting and posting in incorrect forums will result in either your threads being locked or deleted, and you'll probably have your account temporarily suspended. So don't even try.

    Additional tips

Forum member Sr. Itchy brings to the FAQ his top nine tips for brewing a good cup of tea.

    1. Make sure you have a good quality coffee grinder or blender - or that you use one that is effectively disposable. You can get a "disposable" blender at Wal-Mart which you will eventually burn out by pulverizing the poppies. At the other end of the spectrum are the heavy-duty, stainless steel professional models. These high-end machines will last much, much longer and are easier to use.
